内容简介

In this paper, we study the effect of township annexation on industrial land transactions in China. The staggered difference-in-difference empirical results show that industrialland prices decreased by 25% in the annexedtowns from 2013 to 2024. Such effect is much larger in the towns without government seat relocation. Furthermore, more firms enter annexed towns and firm performance is improved for the firms that are located near the town borders. The primary channels for the effect of annexation include industrial agglomeration, government strategies in attracting investment, and political incentives of county governmentleaders. Our paper contributesto the literature in understanding the impacts of administrative boundaries and provide new evidence on the border effect.

主讲人简介

吴明琴，武汉大学经济与管理杏吧 教授，研究领域是发展经济学、城市经济学和环境经济学。研究成果发表于《经济研究》，Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Policy Analyss and Management等学术期刊，主持国家自然科学基金和多项省部级项目。
